Abstract

In German-language narrative texts, Italian language appears particularly frequently in the form of culinarisms and/or in the semantic field of food culture. Using a cultural-semiotic approach, the article examines the word history of Italian culinarisms in German-language Italian prose from 1950 onwards and uses a literary text analysis to classify the contexts in which Italian culinary vocabulary is integrated into the narrative. It poses the question of the use and integration of such culinarisms, taking into account diachronic change. The article also draws on text passages that reproduce specifically Italian idiomatic expressions in German, addresses lexematic gaps or the use of Italian vocabulary for food and drink from the German-speaking cultural area.
