The article investigates how female migrants from the Zhejiang and Fujian provinces of China, residing in a medium-sized city in Veneto, reconcile their work and family lives. Given the position of women in China and considering the differences between rural and urban areas, it is crucial to understand whether migration alters the way different roles are balanced and what tensions may arise between these roles during the migratory experience. The paper aims to explore how the interviewed migrants experience the “double presence” between the working sphere and the family sphere, and how they connect their roles as workers with those as caregivers for family members. The study will also examine any conflicts between these roles and the strategies adopted by the migrants to address them.
Keywords: Chinese women, gender relationship, migration, work, care.
