Abstract

This article analyses with an historic and cultural perspective the archetype of the Western woman traveller in the Mediterranean cultural imaginary. We focus on the common narratives from Biblical Literature to media due to the repercussion of these in the public. Our aim is to demonstrate that even when there are a lot of examples of female agency, there is a lack of references because of the patriarchal belief about movement and public sphere as male spaces.

Keywords: women travellers, history, Goddess travels, adventures, gender media.
