Abstract

Miguel Delibes publishes the novel "El disputado voto del sr. Cayo" in 1978, in full democratic transition. Once again, the rural world has to deal with the anxieties of modernity, creating a culture clash in which the wisdom of the farmer Cayo seems to prevail. In the novel Delibes creates characters that represent some of the ideological postures and common moral principles of the beginning of the XXI century.
The article also focuses on Delibes as a keen observer of the political evolution, an aspect poorly emphasized by criticism. Particular emphasis is given to the the ability of Delibes to trace with great clarity the "human types" that would characterize Spanish politics in the post-Franco era.
