Abstract

Many critics have already underlined the fact that Quebecois drama is an «autoréflexif» and metatheatrical one. Since the 1980s, playwrights have been inventing universes in which they build a reflection of themselves through the creation of characters which are artists or creators. What is now interesting for researchers is to see how works of the years 2000 stem from this inheritance and go further. In their latest works, already recognized authors such as Carole Frechette or Daniel Danis play with this figure of the author, particularly through the unveiling of their writing process. In this article, we will thus try and analyze this playwriting of «autofriction» – a term coined by Louis-Patrick Leroux –, to understand its cause and consequences.
