Abstract

In this article we present two different but complementary research projects. The first one is a university project which aims to develop and improve a multilingual rule-based machine translation called Its-2. We will then explain in more detail our work in developing lexicons and grammar for this project. Our second project, that is, our thesis project, is focused on closely-related language machine translation. Our aim is not only to understand how to improve the machine translation between languages from the same family and, more specifically, between Italian and French, but also to emphasize the importance of linguistic information to obtain grammatically correct translations. We will then explain our point of view by discussing the results of some tests performed on Its-2.
