Juristische Fachsprache in niederdeutschen Verfassungstexten

Abstract

In this paper I will discuss Low German translations of the constitutions of five North German federal states (Land) and analyze linguistic aspects of the specialized discourse in those texts. What will emerge is a lack of terminological precision and unambiguity in modern Low German constitutional texts due partly to insufficient tradition in specialized writing and the lack of specialized vocabulary which can guarantee a correct translation of concepts of legal terminology.
