Abstract

In order to listen to the voices of the inmate women in contemporary Brazil, practically absent from the boom of the Incarceration Literature in the 2000s, we present the cultural activity ‘Poetic Exchange’. The activity integrated the exhibition ‘Body, Gender, Incarceration’ at the Cultural Center of São Paulo (SESC) in 2018. It consisted of exchanging letters with the women from the female penitentiary of the capital city, an exchange dedicated to the sharing of experiences and affections. Despite some problems, it is possible to know more about their needs and anguishes, to whom we offered listening and comfort. We have confirmed the consideration by Gayatri Spivak, who sustains that the subaltern is an essentially heterogeneous category.
