Abstract

The article continues research on the concept of "remediation," originally proposed by Jay D. Bolter and Richard Grusin in 1999 as a new paradigm for understanding the effects, both on aesthetics and on communication across cultures, mass media, of a growing reciprocal influence, today, between the different medial formats in the production of messages, as well as in the actual works of art. Through the archeology of the media that leads to remediation, the article finds in the art of comics an exemplary case of particular interest. The comic book, in fact, is not limited to intersecting speech and image, it also makes the effort to present the course of the dialogue in a visual way, showing a special form of editing "images on hold", which is to understand according to the general theory of Eisenstein's montage. The visual presentation in the comic book is exemplified by the series of Peanuts (Schulz). When it comes to the graphic novel, the iconic form acquires the value of a constructive element of the narration, as illustrated by the example of «Des nouvelles d’Alain» (Guibert, Keler, Lemercier 2011).
