This article looks at how comics tackle the issue of migration, exploring the journeys of both legal and illegal migrants. As a hybrid medium, comics use both image and text to tell the story of these cross-border journeys, which are often marked by difficulties linked to geographical, cultural and linguistic borders. We are going to compare two albums: Comment réussir sa migration clandestine by S. Zerrouki and L'arabe du futur, Tome 1 by R. Sattouf. Zerrouki uses black humour to denounce the horrors experienced by illegal migrants, while Sattouf recounts his own journey as a legal migrant. We will explore the differences in the treatment of legal and illegal migration, by analysing the drawings, texts and narrative structure of the albums, to understand the impact of these stories on the representation of migration.
