Tradurre un lodo arbitrale

Abstract

This article follows a translation from English into Italian of a partial final arbitration award in the matter of maritime law. The translation of an arbitration award is interesting because it arises some typical translation problems linked to the specificity of the arbitration award, a juridical text belonging to the family of judicial judgements. An introduction about the juridical language, the judgement considered as a juridical text and a short comparison between the different features of judgements in common and civil law, are followed by an investigation on the main morpho-syntactic and lexical features of judgements with several examples taken from the translated arbitration award. The second half of this article presents a wide range of translation choices made by the translator and their relevant grounds.
